Position Overview
The Business Development Manager, Utilities is responsible for identifying, developing, advancing, and closing new business opportunities within the utilities market.
This role supports opportunity development from initial engagement through pursuit and award. The position is expected to build pipeline, establish client relationships, and contribute to how opportunities are structured, priced, and pursued to generate revenue.
The role requires coordination with estimating and operations to align scope, subcontractor coverage, and execution planning prior to bid.
Key Responsibilities
Opportunity Identification and Development
- Identify and pursue opportunities within utilities, including investor-owned utilities, cooperatives, municipalities, engineering, procurement, and construction firms, and service contractors
- Build relationships with decision-makers across operations, procurement, capital projects, and contractor management
- Generate and maintain a consistent pipeline of qualified opportunities
- Evaluate scope, location, schedule, and execution considerations to determine viability
- Bring forward opportunities for internal review and pursuit
Pursuit Strategy and Resource Coordination
- Develop pursuit strategy, including subcontractor sourcing, vendor engagement, and resource planning
- Identify and engage qualified subcontractors and suppliers to support pursuits
- Support alignment of scope, pricing approach, and execution considerations
- Contribute to positioning Genesis 360 to competitively bid and win work
Proposal and Execution Support
- Support proposal development, including coordination on pricing inputs, scope clarity, and subcontractor participation
- Maintain awareness of project requirements, timelines, and client expectations
- Assist with transition of awarded work to operations
Generate Revenue
- Advance qualified opportunities through the full business development lifecycle to award
- Close opportunities that convert to executed contracts and revenue for Genesis 360
Pipeline and Account Management
- Maintain accurate pipeline tracking and reporting
- Identify opportunities for account expansion and repeat work
- Support ongoing client engagement and relationship management
Qualifications
- 3 to 5 years of business development, account management, or outside sales experience within utilities, infrastructure, construction, facilities, or service-based environments
- Demonstrated experience generating new business opportunities and advancing them through pursuit and award
- Experience supporting or contributing to bids, proposals, or contract pursuits, including coordination with estimating or operations
- Ability to evaluate project scope, location, schedule, and execution requirements to determine viability
- Experience engaging subcontractors, vendors, or partners as part of opportunity development or pursuit strategy
- Strong communication and organizational skills
- Proficiency with CRM systems and Microsoft Office
- Willingness to travel as required
Preferred Qualifications
- Existing relationships within utility companies, engineering, procurement, and construction firms, or utility service contractors
- Experience in vegetation management, civil construction, facilities support, storm response, or utility-related services
- Familiarity with utility procurement processes and contractor qualification requirements
- Experience working on multi-site or geographically distributed projects

Compensation and Benefits
- Base salary commensurate with experience and qualifications, anticipated range $85,000 to $115,000
